August 30 First week doneAs a master student in the field of sport management, of which class is just a very small part. Hence, I've just finished my first week's classes, now take a break and turn into reading tomorrow.
Talking of classes, let me introduce my other 2 courses, which is called 'Statistics' and 'Business Research Method'. Both are field-related, not general courses.
In the former one, we have to master statistical theories combined with SPSS and SAS to analyze datas from which we want to have some results. It is also life-related, for example, we analyzed a group of data today, to determine how long will people live after their cancer become active. It is useful.
The latter one, research method, we will study how to research something. There maybe many theories, and it will use some statistical methods. The most attractive part of this course is to teach us how to make a predictive research. This is what we want. Because in sport industry, even a small factor could effect the whole. So managers have to predict how these factors work.
That's all for today. HOPE EVERYONE OF YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! THANK Y'ALL! August 27 第一课My 1st Class: Sports Marketing
Instructor: Dr. Bennett (a baseball coach)
He said, sports business is all about marketing. That may be true, due to commercialization & globalization nowadays.
In this course, we have a lot to do, also, a lot of fun, I think. Since he is a baseball coach, we may concern more in the field of baseball when raising cases. Today, each of the class was asked to make a simple introduction and tell its favourite athletes. From their mouths, I only know David Beckham, Michael Jordan and Yao Ming (which is said by myself)... Others are mostly in the field of Baseball and Football. I realize these common knowledge (for Americans) possibly is the key to break ice with classmates. Hence, I have a lot to learn, not only the theories but those common knowledge as well.
Speak of fun, I think Dr. Bennett is a cool but humorous professor, sometimes he speaks just like David Letterman.
In all, since sport management is a challenging but promising field, anything could happen. All I need to do, is to learn, to try hard to catch up with others (I feel I really fell behind), and to seize every opportunity that may facilitate me to learn and to survive.
Take care y'all (I was told this word is a kind of Texan English, people here do not say 'you all', but y'all. And they usually say 'Howdy' instead of 'Hello/Hi'. Is that interesting?)
